“…I’d settle down and give the cat a name!”

Every girl has seen Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The movie revolutionized how women were seen in film, and – later – in society. With the creation of Holly Golightly, the independent woman was born. And while Coco Chanel may have invented the Little Black Dress, it was Audrey’s Givenchy sheath that made the LBD an instant classic. Givenchy wanted Miss Golightly to have a chic wardrobe, but Holly was a call girl who could never seem to save money. Thus, he gave her the Little Black Dress and many, many different ways to wear it.

This post will highlight the classic sheath dress. I’ve chosen four price ranges: under $50, under $100, under $200, and  $200+. It’s easy to create an effortlessly chic look on a tight budget, but if you’re willing to splurge, this is the item to do it on. Also, I can’t stress enough how important it is to try your sheath on before buying it. Sheath dresses should be tailored to your body, so ordering from the internet probably won’t work – unless your willing to buy multiple dresses at once. And even if you usually shy away from a tailor, this an item you MUST have tailored, unless you find the one in a million dress that fits like a glove. Enjoy!

We’re right in the middle of the holiday season. Between buying bakeware for Bunny and chinos for Chip, we’re all tight on cash. Holiday Recipes

With the holidays coming up, you’re sure to have plenty guests to entertain. Whether your bff (see: frenemy) from high school or your little brother’s friends after a snowball fight are coming over, you’ll need some snacks to keep everyone happy. Below are some recipes to help get you through the season!

Drinks

Alton Brown’s Hot Cocoa Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa (Fancy Dutch-processed cocoa is preferred, but any will do)
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper (This doesn’t make it spicy; I swear! It just adds a little something extra)
  • Hot water or milk – whichever you prefer

Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and incorporate evenly. In a small pot, heat 4 to 6 cups of water.
  • Fill your mug half full with the mixture and pour in hot water (or milk). Stir to combine.
  • Seal the rest in an airtight container, keeps indefinitely in the pantry.

 

Hot Apple Cider

Ingredients:

  • 1 (64 fluid ounce) bottle apple cider
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Directions:

  • In a slow cooker, combine apple cider and cinnamon sticks.
  • Wrap allspice and cloves in a small piece of cheesecloth, and add to pot.
  • Stir in brown sugar.
  • Bring to a boil over high heat.
  • Reduce heat, and keep warm.
  • Add rum for a grownup twist of this classic drink!

 

Snacks

Peanut Butter Blossoms (my ABSOLUTE favorite!!)

Ingredients:

  • 36 Heshey kisses (I use original, but you can be more adventurous!)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pouch Betty Crocker® Peanut Butter Cookie Mix (Or this recipe if you like everything to be homemade)
  • Granulated sugar

Directions:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates.
  • Stir cookie mix, oil, water and egg in a medium bowl until soft dough forms.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
  • Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

 

Tofee Bit Cookies (No, Hershey doesn’t pay me for posting these. I just love Hershey’s candy!)

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/3 cups (8 oz. pkg.) Heath Bits ‘O Brickle Toffee Bits

Directions:

  • Heat oven to 350°F.  Lightly grease cookie sheet or line with parchment paper.
  • Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  • Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until well blended.
  • Add eggs; beat well.
  • Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well blended.
  • Stir in toffee bits.
  • Drop by rounded teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheet.
  • Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.  Cool completely.
  • Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

New Blog!

Hey, everyone!

I’ve finally made the switch to Word Press. Hopefully, with a host change, I’ll be able to post more often, as I won’t have to spend two hours formatting EVERY post. (So annoying!)

For those of you who didn’t follow me over on Blogger, it’s nice to finally make your acquaintance. I’m a 22 post grad living in Pennsylvania. I’m a HUGE fan of the preppy style, as you will soon see in my posts. Additionally, I’m a fan of all things classic. My room is covered in photos of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and the Kennedys. I will post fun pictures and facts about them as often as I can!
